Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has firmly denied swirling rumours suggesting he's planning to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring he remains fully committed to the party that brought him to power.
Speaking during a high-level meeting with PDP stakeholders in Osun State, Governor Adeleke dismissed the defection claims as “fake news” being spread by political opponents bent on causing confusion and weakening the PDP ahead of the 2026 general elections.
“My people, party elders and chiefs, I declare before you today that I am not defecting to APC or any other political party,” Adeleke said. “I remain in PDP. Ignore any fake news.”
The governor made these comments while addressing PDP leaders, including former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, at a strategy session held in Ede.
Adeleke reassured party faithful that he has no intention of betraying the mandate freely given to him by Osun people under the PDP platform.
The statement comes after weeks of speculation fueled by Adeleke’s perceived closeness to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his attendance at select federal events.
Critics had claimed the governor was “warming up” to the APC, but Adeleke made it clear that his loyalty lies with the PDP.
“I won my election on the platform of PDP, and I will continue to lead Osun State under the banner of our great party,” he said. “My administration is focused on delivering the dividends of democracy and will not be distracted by baseless rumours.”
Cabinet members and top party officials also echoed the governor’s remarks, insisting that there is no internal crisis within the Osun PDP and that the party remains strong ahead of future political contests.
Political observers believe Adeleke’s firm denial may be part of a broader strategy to strengthen party unity and silence dissent ahead of 2026, where PDP's control of Osun will be put to the test once again.
🧭 What This Means for Osun Politics
Governor Adeleke’s declaration sends a clear message to both supporters and opponents: he is not abandoning ship.
It reinforces the PDP’s grip on Osun State while putting opposition parties on notice that any hopes of poaching the state’s top political figure may be premature.
With the battle for 2026 looming, Adeleke’s political future is in focus—and for now, he’s standing tall in the PDP fold.
