busterblog - BREAKING NEWS: Speaker Abbas Tajudeen Backs Tinubu’s Borrowing Strategy as Key to Nigeria’s Growth

In a decisive show of political alignment, the Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has declared that the Green Chamber stands firmly behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s borrowing strategy, describing it as an indispensable instrument for driving economic growth and reducing poverty.

The Speaker, addressing lawmakers and the public on Monday, stressed that borrowing remains a necessary tool for national development so long as it is tied to productive investments. According to him, President Tinubu’s approach is not reckless spending but a calculated policy aimed at stabilizing Nigeria’s fragile economy, financing critical infrastructure, and delivering long-term benefits to citizens.

Nigeria’s rising debt profile has been a source of intense debate, with critics warning that over-reliance on loans could saddle future generations with unsustainable obligations. However, Tajudeen dismissed those fears, insisting that the current administration’s borrowing is both strategic and inevitable in the face of dwindling revenues, subsidy removals, and global economic shocks.

He emphasized that the legislature will continue to provide oversight to ensure borrowed funds are channeled into sectors capable of boosting productivity and reducing unemployment. His statement comes at a time when Nigerians are grappling with inflation above 20% and widespread hardship, making the government’s fiscal policies a lightning rod for public opinion.

With this declaration, the House of Representatives has effectively closed ranks with the Presidency, signaling that the controversial borrowing drive will not face resistance from within the National Assembly. For many citizens, the question now is not whether Nigeria will borrow, but whether the loans will finally deliver the promised economic relief—or deepen the burden already weighing heavily on the nation.
