In a diplomatic engagement aimed at strengthening bilateral ties between Nigeria and Ethiopia, Vice President Kashim Shettima met with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in Addis Ababa, where both leaders took part in key state activities, including the signing of the official State Guest Register and a guided tour of the historic National Palace Museum.
The visit, which marks a continuation of strategic African partnerships under the Bola Tinubu administration, saw Vice President Shettima and Prime Minister Ahmed engage in high-level discussions centered on regional security, economic cooperation, and continental integration.
During the ceremonial visit, Shettima penned his signature in the State Guest Register, a symbolic act underscoring the importance of Nigeria-Ethiopia relations.
Shortly afterward, both leaders toured the iconic Ethiopian National Palace Museum, a cultural monument that chronicles the country’s imperial history, pan-African legacy, and post-independence evolution.
The visit also highlighted efforts by both nations to deepen cooperation in areas such as infrastructure development, trade, aviation, education, and defense.
With Ethiopia serving as a key player in the Horn of Africa and Nigeria being West Africa’s largest economy, both governments are seeking stronger diplomatic and economic alignment amid shifting global dynamics.
The meeting between Shettima and Abiy Ahmed comes at a time when intra-African collaboration is increasingly emphasized through platforms such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the African Union's Agenda 2063.
As news of the visit trended across digital platforms, Google search interest soared with queries like “Shettima Ethiopia visit,” “Nigeria Ethiopia relations,” and “VP Shettima signs guest book in Ethiopia.”
