Popular Nigerian comedian, Seyi Law, has revealed that some Nigerians have turned against him and no longer support his comedy shows simply because he threw his weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the last general elections.
In a heartfelt conversation on Teju Babyface’s podcast, Seyi Law didn’t hold back as he spoke about the price he’s had to pay for his political choice. According to him, the backlash from Nigerians has been intense and, at times, hurtful. He admitted that since making his stance public, he has noticed a significant drop in support for his shows, but despite it all, he has no regrets.
“Some Nigerians hate me for supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. They don’t even support my shows anymore,” he said. “You might not support me today, but I want to be 70 or 80 years old and see my children enjoying the benefits of the sacrifices I made today.”
Seyi Law made it clear that his decision was not made lightly or out of sentiment. In fact, he strongly believes that Tinubu is Nigeria’s best shot at meaningful change. According to him, if Tinubu cannot fix the country, no other politician can — not even the popular opposition candidates Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP).
“I tell you wholeheartedly, not with any sentiment, if Bola Ahmed Tinubu cannot redirect the ship of Nigeria, no politician currently can do it. None. Not Atiku, not Peter Obi. Not with what I know about all of them,” he said.
The comedian, known for using his platform to touch on social and political issues, appears to have made peace with the consequences of his choice. While some fans have turned their backs on him, he remains confident in his decision and hopeful for the future. For Seyi Law, supporting Tinubu wasn’t about popularity or pleasing the crowd — it was about believing in a vision for Nigeria that he hopes will one day become reality.
Whether Nigerians agree with him or not, one thing is clear: Seyi Law isn’t backing down.
