Anambra’s political climate has turned fiery once again as Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo took a direct swipe at the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket during an All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) rally — mocking both the credentials and credibility of the opposition candidates ahead of the November 8, 2025 election.
In a one-minute video now making rounds online, Soludo can be seen addressing a jubilant crowd in Igbo, rhythmically chanting what many described as a “mockery anthem.” The governor ridiculed APC’s candidate, Nicholas Ukachukwu, for allegedly scoring F9 in basic economics in his WAEC results, and his running mate, Uche Ekwunife, who has faced accusations of possessing a fake PhD from an unaccredited institution. Amid a sea of green and yellow APGA flags, Soludo’s remarks sent the crowd into roaring laughter and chants — the kind of charged energy that now defines Anambra’s political rallies.
“How can someone who failed economics lead Anambra’s economy? And his deputy with a questionable PhD wants to govern our people?” Soludo reportedly taunted in Igbo, drawing thunderous cheers.
The video, short but potent, quickly ignited a storm of reactions across social media. Supporters of the governor praised his “bold truth-telling” and described the jab as a necessary reminder that academic integrity should matter in politics. But others saw it as an unnecessary descent into personal attacks that distracts from the real issues plaguing the state — including unemployment, infrastructure decay, and insecurity.
Political observers say the episode underscores how education and qualification have become major flashpoints in this year’s race, which features 16 candidates vying for the governorship. The APC, Labour Party (LP), and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have all faced scrutiny over their candidates’ records, but Soludo’s sharp focus on the APC ticket has drawn attention. Critics argue that his attacks on Nicholas Ukachukwu and Uche Ekwunife appear to overshadow his administration’s performance debates, particularly around infrastructure, education, and the economy — areas where opposition candidates have been most vocal.
“Soludo seems more focused on humiliating the APC than addressing criticisms of his own government,” one political analyst noted online, echoing a growing sentiment among neutral voters. Others, however, say the governor’s remarks are part of a deliberate strategy to weaken the APC’s credibility early, ensuring APGA maintains dominance in its traditional stronghold.
Meanwhile, the APC camp has yet to issue an official response to the viral video, though sources close to Ukachukwu’s team described Soludo’s remarks as “unbecoming of a sitting governor.”
As Anambra inches closer to November 8, what began as a battle of manifestos is fast morphing into a war of words and credentials. Soludo’s fiery jab may have electrified his base, but whether it wins new converts or alienates undecided voters remains to be seen.
One thing, however, is clear — the 2025 Anambra governorship election is no longer just about politics; it’s about pride, perception, and who the people believe truly deserves the right to lead.
