Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim has sent a strong message to rising midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, insisting the teenager still has much more to offer despite his growing reputation.
Speaking in a press briefing, Amorim acknowledged Mainoo’s desire for more game time but warned against complacency.
“Like a lot of guys, he wants to play more. I believe a lot in Kobbie, but some of you think that Kobbie Mainoo is already done,” Amorim said. “I think he can do so much better. He can improve in a lot. I really believe in Kobbie, but I want more.”
The 19-year-old midfielder has been hailed as one of United’s brightest talents, impressing with maturity and composure in midfield. Yet Amorim’s comments underline his belief that Mainoo’s development is far from complete, with higher standards expected as he competes for a regular starting role.
Mainoo has already earned senior England recognition, but Amorim’s challenge suggests the teenager will need to raise his performance levels further if he is to cement his place in both club and country setups.
