"I Never Said Anyone Killed Mohbad" – Iyabo Ojo Cries Out Amidst Police Probes and Death Threats

In a heartfelt public statement that has since gripped social media and sparked new conversations around justice, celebrity actress and activist Iyabo Ojo has declared emphatically that she never accused anyone of being responsible for the tragic death of Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad. The actress made this clarification amidst mounting death threats, police invitations, cyberbullying allegations, and a recent fire incident that reportedly destroyed her office.

In a statement shared on her verified Instagram page, Ojo broke her silence following a barrage of public backlash, especially after she was recently summoned by the Nigeria Police Force’s National Cybercrime Centre in Abuja. The actress was accused of cyberbullying and other related offenses stemming from a live video she had made in the past concerning Mohbad's death. That video, which resurfaced following the singer’s passing, saw Ojo emotionally urging certain individuals to present themselves for questioning. However, she insists that her statements were not accusations but a passionate plea for transparency.

According to Iyabo Ojo, her advocacy has always been rooted in truth, empathy, and justice — values she says have fueled her work through her NGO, Pinkies Foundation. She explained that after Mohbad’s death in 2023 stirred outrage across Nigeria, her organization took formal steps to demand justice, including writing letters to high-ranking officials like the Governor, Attorney General of Lagos State, Commissioner of Police, and the Assistant Inspector General of Police. Her request was simple: a fair, independent, and comprehensive investigation, including a coroner’s inquest into the singer's death.

"If I had truly believed or affirmed that any individual was directly responsible for Mohbad’s death, I would not have gone through these formal channels seeking legal and investigative steps," she stated. "I never said anyone killed Mohbad."

The actress recounted that she, along with other public advocates, also visited former Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Idowu Owohunwa, and members of the State House of Assembly to further her calls for justice. Her efforts, she said, were never meant to indict any particular individual but to seek answers that Nigerians and Mohbad’s grieving family desperately needed.

Ojo expressed dismay that despite her efforts, she has become a target for relentless online attacks, misinformation campaigns, and even life-threatening messages. In a particularly chilling revelation, she disclosed that a letter threatening her life was delivered to her office days before her daughter’s wedding in Tanzania. The letter warned that she would “go through hell in the next three months.” Now, disturbing images of coffins bearing her name and videos with explicit death threats are circulating online.

"Certain individuals have, over the years, consistently called for my death, the destruction of my source of livelihood, and have incited public violence against me and my children — all without any visible intervention from the authorities," she lamented. The intimidation has reached dangerous levels, she claims, not only because of her involvement in the Mohbad case but also due to her outspoken political stance during the last elections, which many believe put her on a collision course with powerful interest groups.

Adding to the turbulence, Ojo’s office was recently gutted by fire — a development she says has added emotional and financial strain to her already precarious situation. While she has continued to honor police invitations and promised full cooperation with law enforcement, she pleaded for space to recover emotionally and tend to her well-being.

Despite the darkness surrounding her current circumstances, the actress remains spiritually grounded and optimistic. "Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but God will deliver me from them all," she quoted from scripture, saying her faith has been her greatest anchor in recent times. She insisted that her calls for justice were based on disturbing content that flooded the internet in the aftermath of Mohbad's death and that her reaction was emotional — not accusatory.

"I was simply reacting emotionally to disturbing videos circulating at the time and used my platform to call for justice. I have always sought justice through the proper authorities, bearing all expenses personally through my foundation," she reiterated.

She emphasized that it is solely within the police's power to determine whom they investigate or invite for questioning, not hers or any other citizen's. "It is not within my place to dictate how the police should conduct their investigations, nor have I ever tried to direct the course of such decisions," she noted.

Iyabo Ojo concluded her message with gratitude to those who have stood by her. "I extend my sincere appreciation to the police authorities, concerned individuals, friends, and supporters who have stood by me regardless of tribe, religion, or differing opinions," she said.

As the investigation into Mohbad’s death continues and Iyabo Ojo remains a central figure in the public's pursuit of justice, one thing is clear — the actress refuses to be silenced. In the face of threats, fire, public criticism, and even cyberbullying accusations, she insists she will continue to speak up for what she believes is right. Her voice, she asserts, is not one of condemnation but of advocacy.

Her final words reflect a woman who has been bruised but not broken: “Despite everything, I trust that God will ultimately give me victory over adversity.”

In a climate where social advocacy can come with heavy personal costs, Iyabo Ojo’s story serves as a sobering reminder of the fine line between seeking justice and becoming a victim in the process.
