In the wake of his sudden dismissal as head coach of Tottenham Hotspur, Ange Postecoglou has issued an emotional statement, reflecting on his two-year spell at the North London club.
The Australian tactician, who led Spurs to a historic Europa League triumph just weeks ago, says he leaves the job with "pride" and no regrets.
“The overriding emotion is pride” — Postecoglou
Postecoglou’s heartfelt message, released via his official channels just hours after being sacked by Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy, captured a tone of gratitude, reflection, and hope for the club’s future.
“When I reflect on my time as Manager of Tottenham Hotspur, my overriding emotion is one of pride,” he wrote.
“The opportunity to lead one of England's historic football clubs and bring back the glory it deserves will live with me for a lifetime.”
Postecoglou’s most defining moment at Spurs came in Bilbao, where Tottenham clinched the 2025 UEFA Europa League title, beating Manchester United 1-0 — their first European trophy in 41 years.
“That night in Bilbao was the culmination of two years of hard work, dedication and unwavering belief in a dream,” he stated.
Despite finishing a disappointing 17th in the Premier League, his European success had rekindled faith among the supporters, many of whom saw him as the man to lead the club into a new era.
Ange was quick to emphasize that his tenure laid the groundwork for future achievements, urging fans to believe in the current squad.
“We have laid foundations that mean this club should not have to wait another seven years for success. I have enormous faith in this group of players and know there is much more potential and growth in them.”
His message served not only as a farewell but also a challenge to the next generation of Tottenham players and managers.
Postecoglou reserved some of his most emotional words for the fans and backroom staff.
“I sincerely want to thank those who are the lifeblood of the club — the supporters,” he said.
“Even in difficult times, I always felt they wanted me to succeed. That gave me all the motivation I needed.”
He also paid tribute to his coaching team and players, calling them “legends” of the club, and extended heartfelt thanks to those who worked behind the scenes.
“We are forever connected” — Ange signs off
Ending with Spurs’ famous Latin motto — Audere est Facere (“To Dare is to Do”) — Ange Postecoglou reminded the football world of the passion, ambition, and resilience he brought to Tottenham Hotspur.
“We are forever connected. Audere est Facere.”
